This 8-week session is for students who are interested in the arts but are wanting to try something a little different. Our cultural and creative arts programs at Aya Cultural Arts Studio provide families with multiple ways to experience the arts with instructors who are certified and with over 20 years of experience in their craft.

African Drumming is taught by ACAS owner Ayanna Gallant who has a degree in Music Education and Curriclum and Instruction through Integrated Arts. She performs regularly around the DMV and continues to hone her skills as an apprentice and student of the Tam Tam Mandingue. She is also a progessional voice actor (co-teaching improv acting) with brands such as McDonalds, GoPro, Xerox, Red Bull, and Hyundai.

Creative Writing and Improv Acting will be taught by Matthew Gallant, a poet, editor, actor, and voracious reader. Over the last twenty years, Matthew has lead poetry workshops for K-12 students, teachers, festivals, and events. He as competed in slam poetry across the country and has published poets around the world through his micro-press, Sargent Press. He credits improv acting for creating a fun and trusting environment in the classroom as an English teacher, being more dynamic in stage acting, and making him a more compelling communicator.
